Since the early 2010s, the Open University (OU) has actively developed and implemented AI tools on a large scale. In the past year, their focus has been on the creation and analysis of Generative AI to aid academics in crafting educational materials and to assist students in utilizing these materials for their studies. Professor John Domingue will discuss key areas where Generative AI can enhance learning outcomes and present the current version of the OU’s Generative AI tools during this session. Additionally, the session will outline the OU’s intentions to utilize Generative AI for executive training at the Open Data Institute through the SAGE-RAI project, funded by UKRI (Smart Assessment and Guided Education with Responsible AI). The OU’s overarching perspective is that, if effectively harnessed, Generative AI has the potential to bring about a more transformative impact on Higher Education than the internet did 30 years ago.
